Crazy Summer

I know, this blog hasn´t been updated in a very long time. The reason is simple, too much traveling. In early August, Hiriko was invited to present the prototype to Volkswagen Electric Mobility Team. A couple of weeks later, the FabLab annual conference was celebrated in Amsterdam and we were requested to present the Bermeo Fab Lab there . September has also started with a similar tune, an Hiriko delegation had as very promising meeting with the Hong Kong Government to explore potential areas of collaboration in the field of mobility on demand and we also participated in Singapore´s SIX summer school.

Basque Fab Lab as a case study

The International Network of Fab Labs, the Digital Fabrication Laboratories created by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology is celebrating their 6th annual conference in Amsterdam this week. There are already about 50 of this revolutionary laboratories around the world but Neil Gershenfeld decided to present our lab as a case study. Volkswagen likes Hiriko

Yesterday we were in Berlin invited by Volkswagen´s sister company Carmeq to present the Hiriko project to VW Senior Staff. As you can see in the picture, Dr. Volkmar Tannenberg, Volkswagen Executive Director of Electric and Electronic Development was really interested listening to Retro´s details about the car. Representatives of the big electric german companies and Stefan Gulas, the inventor of the incredible Erockit electric bike were also there. Thank you everybody.

New Fab Labs in Ireland

I was lucky to have the opportunity of visiting Belfast last week. The purpose of this trip was to explore the possibility of launching two new FabLabs in Northern Ireland. Pat Colgan, an old friend who serves as the Chief Executive of SEUPB (Special European Union Programmes Body) invited me and M.I.T. Professor Neil Gershenfeld to explore with local partners the possibility of applying innovation to bring divided communities together. They think that our Fab Lab in Bermeo can be an inspiring example for implementing peace building programmes innovatively.

If we succeed in bulding an strong proposal, DenokInn will be in charge of training the managers of the new labs in methodologies for identifying new social innovation opportunities. I will keep you posted.

Hiriko in Brussels and Amsterdam

I had the opportunity to watch Holland beating Brazil in Amsterdam last week. As you can see in the picture,there was a great atmosphere in the city after such a big surprise. We had been in Brussels that morning presenting the Hiriko project to a delegation of 50 ABN-AMRO private wealth investors.

Just a couple of hours before the match, we took the fast train to Amsterdam . The purpose of this short break was to have an exploratory discussion with the Sustainability Programme Amsterdam about the electric future of the city. Thank you for a warm welcome and great football!
